Mr. Lynch's Biography

Collaborative Law Center of Maui’s founding director is James T. Lynch, Esq. Mr. Lynch has been chief counsel in many multistate corporate and individual business cases, divorce cases and child custody cases involving many millions of dollars. Mr. Lynch received his Doctor of Jurisprudence from Fordham University School of Law, Lincoln Center, in New York City and his Masters in Counseling from Southwestern College in Santa Fe, New Mexico. He is a member of the state bars of Hawaii, New York, California, Florida, and New Mexico. He is a past member of the International Alliance of Holistic Lawyers, and he has been trained as a "Collaborative Lawyer"SM in New Mexico and Hawaii, since 2005.

Mr. Lynch has served as Special Counsel to the President’s Commission on Financial Structure and Regulation, the Chairman of the Securities and Exchange Commission, and the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System in Washington D.C. He has published several law books and many legal articles. He has served as a consultant to major domestic and international companies in the fields of banking, insurance, securities, government regulation, real estate regulation and real estate development and the environment. Mr. Lynch is Director Emeritus and Founding Director of The Pennycamp Institute, Inc. a non-profit conservation and research organization helping to preserve the nation’s first living marine coral reef sanctuary, extending from Miami to Fort Jefferson in the Dry Tortugas. He suggested and helped implement the incorporation of the first marine research laboratory in an offshore lighthouse and the first public library and local government offices in a major commercial shopping center. Mr. Lynch is the recipient of the Nations Outstanding Service Award from the President of the United States and the Southern Governor’s Conference. He is a past member of a National Trial Lawyer’s Association, State’s Trial Bars, and past president of a local Bar Association. He has been a trial lawyer for over 25 years in four states and five federal districts.

 

Mr. Lynch is a member of Hawaii’s First Collaborative Law Practice Group, which states that collaborative divorce law:

   Works toward mutual respect
Emphasizes the needs of children
Avoids going to court
Allows parties to keep control of the process
Provides for open communication
Utilizes a problem-solving approach
Identifies and addresses the interests and the concerns of all
Prepares the individuals involved for new lives
